File types STIGreviewer works with

• .ckl — STIG checklist (XML). The older format. STIGreviewer can read, edit, and create CKL files, and convert them to CKLB.

• .cklb — STIG checklist (JSON). The newer format. STIGreviewer can read, edit, and create CKLB files.

• .zip — archive containing CKL/CKLB files. STIGreviewer extracts the archive (including ZIPs inside ZIPs) and loads every checklist it finds.

• .xml — DISA STIG XML files loaded into the STIG Library, or SCAP XCCDF result files used to create new checklists.

• .json — STIG Revisions file.

• .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm — eMASS POA&M Excel files loaded on the Reference Files page. Excel imports into individual checklists also use these extensions.

• .xml (Evaluate-STIG answer files) — opened, created, and saved from the Answer File panel inside an open checklist. See chapter 11. These are separate from the STIG XML files you load into the STIG Library.

Where STIGreviewer remembers things

STIGreviewer keeps your settings, your grid layouts, your recent folders and files, the path to your auto-save folder, your theme choice, and your bulk-operation defaults in your user preferences. You don’t need to do anything to back them up — they are restored automatically the next time you start the application.

• STIG Revisions — loads the STIG Revisions JSON used to flag revised checks.
